Terms of Use

last updated september 20, 2026

Karl is made by Hrvoje Matosic. These terms cover the Karl apps for macOS, iOS and Android, and the optional paid tier, Karl Pro. Using Karl means you accept them.

The free tier

Karl is free to use. Recording, on-device transcription, search and plain-text sharing are free and do not expire. Nothing in the free tier is time-limited or trial-based.

Karl Pro

Cancelling and refunds

You manage and cancel a subscription through the store you bought it from, not through us. On Android: Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or the "Manage subscription" link in Karl's settings. On Apple devices: Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies — we cannot issue or reverse a charge, because we never receive your payment directly.

What we do not do

We do not collect your recordings, transcripts or personal data. Karl has no account, no login and no server of ours to upload anything to. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.

Your content is yours

Your recordings, transcripts and notes belong to you. We claim no rights over them and have no way of reading them.

Acceptable use

Recording other people is regulated differently in different places. You are responsible for having whatever consent your jurisdiction requires before you record a conversation. Do not use Karl to break the law.

No warranty

Karl is provided "as is". Transcription is done by machine and will sometimes be wrong; it is not a certified record. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from use of the app, and any liability is limited to what you paid for Karl Pro.

Changes

If these terms change, the date above changes and the new version appears here. Continuing to use Karl after that means accepting the update.
